The Levellers

One of my interests in the Levellers, the political movement of Cromwellian times. One Leveller, Richard Rumbold, was quoted by Thomas Jefferson ('The mass of mankind has not been born with saddles on their backs, nor a favoured few booted and spurred ready to ride them legitimately.') They were Christian radicals whose ideas fuelled the American and French Revolutions and influenced the formation of socialism.
